Director

  • Jacob Gutshall, MHS CCC-SLP
    • Jacob earned his Bachelor of Health Science from the University of Missouri and a Master of Health Science from the University of Missouri and has been a Speech-Language Pathologist at the Clinic since 2004. Jacob holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association and the Hanen Center’s “It Takes Two to Talk” Certification. “With my focus in pediatric speech-language pathology the Clinic’s emphasis on early intervention has been a great fit. I have dedicated the past twelve years to serving children with communication disorders at the Walker Scottish Rite Clinic and look forward to serving the Clinic’s children for years to come,” says Jacob. A fun fact, Jacob is currently serving as the 2017 President Elect of the Missouri Speech-Language Hearing Association.

Office Manager

  • Sharon Young; 314-529-9200
    • Sharon has been the office manager for the Clinic since 1995. She helps coordinate and maintain records for the families and staff. Sharon’s favorite part of her job is getting to know the parents and watching the children become successful communicators. Sharon enjoys spending time with her family and outside of work her favorite activities include crafting, reading and finding yard sales.

Speech-Language Pathologists

  • Carrie Barry, M.S. CCC-SLP
    • Carrie received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Rockhurst University and her Master’s degree in Communication Disorders from Fontbonne University. She previously worked for Special School District of St. Louis County, as well as a birth-to-three early intervention program in Johnson County, Kansas. Carrie is certified in The Hanen Centre’s It Takes Two to Talk parent training program, as well as The Hanen Centre’s Learning Language and Loving It program. She co-leads one of the preschool language groups, conducts screenings and evaluations, provides individual therapy and parent training, and supervises graduate student clinicians. Carrie loves working with young children and their families, which is why she has enjoyed working at the Walker Scottish Rite Clinic since 2004. A fun fact about Carrie is that she enjoys traveling, especially to warm beach destinations!
  • Kate Bockhold, M.S. CCC-SLP
    • Kate received both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science from Fontbonne University. Kate has worked exclusively with the early childhood population throughout her career. She has been employed by the Walker Scottish Rite Clinic (WSRC) since 2002 and appreciates the one on one therapy model and parent education piece that the Clinic provides to families. Kate has worked at various Outreach locations during her time at WSRC and currently sees clients in Union, MO two days per week.  In addition to seeing kids in therapy, Kate also leads the Kidscreen program which screens children’s speech and language skills in various daycares and preschools in the St. Louis Metropolitan area.  Most recently, she has screened children at Head Start locations in North County and North City.  She is certified in the Hanen “It Takes Two to Talk” program, as well as PROMPT trained.  Kate enjoys spending time her family, reading and crafting.
  • Kara Daman, M.S. CCC-SLP
    • Kara received both her Bachelor’s Degree (2007) and Master’s Degree (2009) in Communication Disorders from Fontbonne University. She worked for a public school setting for eight years, first providing therapy as a Speech-Language Implementor, and then as a Speech-Language Pathologist. Within this setting, her primary focus was early childhood, working with preschool through 2nd grade students with a variety of communication disorders or other delays. She joined the Walker Scottish Rite Clinic team in June of 2015, working in both the Crystal City, MO Outreach Clinic, and at our Maryville University Clinic each week. In September of 2015, the Crystal City Clinic was relocated to the Jefferson County Health Department in Arnold, MO, where she now offers screenings, evaluations and therapy three days each week. She also leads one of the Clinic’s KidTalk Language Groups, and is Hanen certified in the “It Takes Two to Talk” program, as well as PROMPT trained. A fun fact you may not know about Kara is that she enjoys singing, and frequently sings at weddings around the St. Louis area!
  • Brandy Harrelson, M.S. CCC-SLP
    • Brandy received her undergraduate degree in Communication Disorders and  her master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology both from Fontbonne University in St. Louis. During her last semester of graduate school she did a practicum at the Clinic and loved it. Upon graduation, she began working full time at the Clinic (2004) as a Speech-Language Pathologist and has been there ever since. Brandy loves working with young children and their families as well as supervising graduate students. Brandy is Hanen Certified in “It Takes Two to Talk,” as well as PROMPT trained. A fun fact about Brandy is that she enjoys living in the country and likes to go on scrapbooking weekends with her sisters several times a year.
  • Alison Manahan, M.A. CCC-SLP
    • Ali received her undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Saint Louis University. She also went to Saint Louis University for graduate school. She was a graduate student at the Walker Scottish Rite Clinic while in graduate school and loved her practicum at the Clinic during that time. After graduate school she worked in early intervention, schools and homes. Ali started working at the Clinic in 2010 because she believed in the Clinic’s values of working with families with young children. Ali is one of the speech pathologists that leads the KidTalk Language Group, teaches the “It Takes Two to Talk” Hanen Centre parent training program and provides individual screenings, evaluations and therapy. Ali is Hanen Certified in “It Takes Two to Talk”, as well as, PROMPT trained. She is a mentor to the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association at Maryville University and loves working with graduate students at the Clinic. One thing you might not know about Ali is that she is very crafty and has her own personalization business that she does for fun!
  • Beth McCarthy, M.S. CCC-SLP
    • Beth earned both her Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Communication Disorders from Fontbonne University in St. Louis. During graduate school, Beth began seeing clients at the Clinic as part of her practicum and during this time developed a high interest in the Clinic’s mission. Beth started working at the Clinic full time as a speech-language pathologist after graduate school (2004). Beth loves working with young children and their parents to help each child reach his or her communication goals. Beth provides individual therapy to children at the Maryville University location and the St. Louis City location. She also leads the Clinic’s social language group that is held in the summer and also supervises graduate student clinicians. She is Hanen certified in “It Takes Two to Talk” program, as well as, PROMPT trained. A fun fact about Beth is that she loves to decorate. If she wasn’t busy being a speech-language pathologist, she would want to be an interior designer (Joanna Gaines style)!
  • Ellie Richter, Bilingual M.A. CCC-SLP
    • Ellie is a bilingual (English/Spanish) speech and language therapist from St. Louis, Missouri.  She has her B.S. in communication sciences and disorders and her M.A. in speech-language pathology from Saint Louis University.  She completed her clinical fellowship year in Houston, Texas where she trained as a bilingual speech pathologist in an elementary school setting.  Ellie has experience in home health, educational, and private clinic settings.  Her specialty is working with young children and their families who speak Spanish. Ellie is Hanen Certified in “It Takes Two to Talk,” as well as PROMPT trained.  She began working at the Walker Scottish Rite Clinic in the fall of 2015 leading the KidTalk Spanish program.  Twice per week she conducts outreach therapy at SouthSide Early Childhood Center.  Ellie serves as a mentor in Maryville University’s Women’s Leadership Mentoring Program.  A fun fact that you might not know about Ellie is that she loves beekeeping!
  • Sarah Schmidt, M.S. CCC-SLP
    • Sarah has her Masters of Science in Speech Language Pathology with an emphasis in education for deaf & hard of hearing from Fontbonne University.  Sarah is PECS trained, as well as PROMPT trained.  Sarah has worked as a speech language pathologist for thirteen years, and recently joined the team at Walker Scottish Rite Clinic.  She loves the more personal feel that a clinic setting provides and enjoys being able to develop relationships with parents that help their children be successful communicators.  Fun fact about Sarah is that she has a blog dedicated to once a month freezer cooking and believes freezer meals save her sanity on a daily basis.  She also loves taking motorcycle rides with her husband and visiting small town, hole in the wall, amazing restaurants.
